Emma Prempeh

b. 1996

Emma Prempeh is a London-based painter. She studied at Goldsmiths, graduating in 2019 winning the Alumno/Space bursary award for 2020. She received her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art under the LeverHulme Trust Arts Scholarship winning the Valerie Beston Trust Arts award for 2022.

Prempeh’s works are troves of nostalgia, identity and matriarchal strength. Working mostly in paint and flourishings of Schlag metal, she grapples with memory and the complexities of connection. Her works are richly layered and infused with personal and familial narratives, centred around her diasporic experience (her mother is from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and her father is from Ghana).

Prempeh won 1st place for the Ingram Collection Purchase Prize and became a participating artist in Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2019. She is represented by Tiwani Contemporary.
