Lewis Hammond
b. 1987
Lewis Hammond is a British painter renowned for his figurative art, currently based in Berlin. Born in Wolverhampton, he completed his studies at the Royal Academy Schools in 2017, where he developed a deep appreciation for the immediacy and versatile nature of oil paint. This fascination with the materiality of oil paint permeates Hammond’s practice.
Using a palette of dark and earthy tones, Hammond creates haunting, statuesque figures reminiscent of artistic traditions established by luminaries such as Caravaggio, Velázquez and Goya.
Hammond’s art occupies a realm between the personal and the archetypal, echoing Surrealist sensibilities. Each piece emanates a fantastical aura, rich with symbolic potential and offering multiple layers of interpretation.
His work has been exhibited internationally in several solo and duo exhibitions.
