Last week, The Perimeter kicked off ‘Gaaaaaaasp’, the first public solo show from British-American artist Alexandra Metcalf – and it did not disappoint. Metcalf’s work, which grapples with themes of gender and interiority, leans into psychological tension through moody paintings and immersive spatial installations. In a surprising shift from past protocol, guests were allowed to roam the gallery in their shoes – an unexpected luxury in a space once synonymous with barefoot contemplation and slippers. If there were ever a glamorous way to risk athlete’s foot, that would be the way to go. We sent Isabel MacCarthy down to capture the night, armed with a camera and a pair of shoes.
