Plaster Shoots: double trouble with Jordan Wolfson and Jonas Wood

Last night, Sadie Coles and Gagosian hosted bustling openings for Jordan Wolfson and Jonas Wood’s latest shows. We sent photographer Colin Mullins down to both parties to capture the crowds and an unusual turn of events…

Jonas Wood at the opening of his show at Gagosian Grosvenor Hill

Last night, we sent photographer Colin Mullins out gallery hopping for the latest Plaster Shoots. He started out at Gagosian where Jonas Wood is presenting a series of new paintings: stills lifes which show off a colourful interpretation of tranquil and meditative domestic spaces, with a heavy dose of claustrophobia.

Later, Mullins dropped by Sadie Coles HQ for Jordan Wolfson’s ‘Mirror and Bear’. By then, the sun had set and the mood had darkened. Wolfson’s unsettling show combines a sense of “playfulness and horror” in its large-scale sculptural animations that flirt with discomfort and innocence. Of course, you can’t have a large mirror at a gallery anymore without hoards of art influencers shamelessly posing for a pic. Wolfson quickly kicked everyone out, forcing them to view the show from the pavement. Luckily, Sadie had some champagne on hand for the crowd. Thanks, babe! It is Frieze week after all…
