Plaster Shoots: Jessica Draper’s store takeover
7 min read
For the second Plaster Store takeover – featuring paintings by Sebastián Espejo, curated by Jessica Draper – drinks were flowing, art was admired, and brains were freezing (thanks to the ice cream truck parked outside)
Jessica Draper kicked off the summer vibes with a Mr Whippy at the opening of her store takeover
Last night the Plaster Store had its second opening of its ongoing takeover series. Jessica Draper took the reins, presenting a tightly curated selection of works by Chilean painter Sebastián Espejo, who offered up an array of delicate paintings that quietly reflect the impermanence of the everyday. The store was also stocked with a number of ICA editions, and books dedicated to the early years of the ICA, from its inception in 1946 until 1968.
This wasn’t your bog-standard wine and beer type of opening. Plaster presented a whole new viewing experience: attending an opening on a sugar high. Jessica arranged an ice cream van to brave the streets of Soho for guests to gorge. Buzzed on E-numbers and good paintings, as one visitor put it: “I haven’t felt a rush like that since that stick of rock my nan got me from her trip to Brighton in ’09”. Luckily, the Plaster team was on hand to capture the affair. Were you snapped?
