Plaster Shoots: a night with Dexter Navy

Last Thursday, acclaimed photographer and Plaster star Dexter Navy hosted a vibrant evening for the opening of his latest London show. We sent photographer Isabel MacCarthy down to capture the crowd
If you’re anyone who’s anyone, then you would’ve been at No.9 Cork Street on 26th September. Dexter Navy’s solo show ‘Redux’ at Frieze’s permanent exhibition space certainly gave Mayfair a much-needed burst of vibrancy. For his latest exhibition, the Grammy-nominated photographer, who has worked with the likes of Sampha, M.I.A, Stüssy and Dior, invites us on a pilgrimage to Egypt, Navy’s homeland. The photographs capture a sensibility that feels a million miles away from the streets of London; Navy presents a technicolour portrait of Egypt. The world is dreamlike through his eyes, and his work captures a sense of tranquility – even in chaos.
Back in May this year, Navy was the co-star of Plaster’s 10th issue, in collaboration with French artist Pol Taburet. So, it felt fitting that for the latest installment of Plaster Shoots, we sent Isabel MacCarthy over to Cork Street to see what went down at the launch of Navy’s show.
‘Redux’ was produced by Kearsey & Gold and Charlie Green
