Plaster Shoots: Pam Hogg’s apocalypse at Emalin

Pam Hogg, the celebrated Scottish fashion designer, musician, filmmaker and self-described ‘mischief maker’ has previously dressed the likes of Siouxsie Sioux, Björk and Lady Gaga.

For London Fashion Week, Emalin played host to Hogg’s new collection titled ‘Of Gods and Monsters’. Referencing the horror and uncertainty of contemporary global conflicts with her signature punk aesthetic, the mannequins were serving something somewhere between steampunk and dieselpunk (look it up) with a hint of disco. Monumental headpieces constructed from cotton and tulle appeared like warrior headpieces, and one undergarment simply read ‘Apocalypse’.

On Instagram, Hogg said “The opportunity to show in a gallery was freedom to create in a different way… a direction that feels more relevant now. I stride the two worlds of art and fashion… and this is the first time they’ve gelled together.” Receiving notable visitors including Sarah Lucas, Princess Julia and Sue Webster over the course of the weekend, gallery proprietor Leopold Thun was spotted hawking t-shirts at the entrance with proceeds supporting Hogg’s charity foundation. As Thun told us, “Pam Hogg has been a close friend of the gallery for a long time, so when she was looking for a showroom for her latest couture collection, it only made sense for us to offer our space, which was originally built in 1889 as showrooms and workshops for a gentlemen’s outfitter. This latest collection was displayed on mannequins, so the clothes became sculptures in their own right, and the turnout from both fashion and art audiences was impressive.”
