Barbara Wesołowska
b. 1984
Barbara Wesołowska was born and raised in Wrocław and now lives and works in London. Wesołowska works exclusively as a painter, creating artworks that blur the line between abstraction and figuration. Her paintings draw on her study of traditional oil painting and conservation, as well as her reading of psychoanalytic theories. Wesołowska studied painting at the Fine Art Academy in Wrocław (2008 – 2010), after which she moved to London, where she studied for a BA at the Slade (2010-2013) and an MA at the Royal College of Arts (2013 – 2015).
Wesołowska’s work has been exhibited in Malediction and Prayer, Modern Art, London (2023); Machines for Seeing With, Brunette Coleman, London (2023); A Feeling in Oneself and Voice of Someone Else, Stereo, Warsaw (2023); counter-song, east contemporary, Milan (2022); Apple in the Dark, Harkawik, New York (2022); Nothing but murmuring, Imlabor, Tokyo (2021); The Vapours, Kunstverein Bamburg (2020); A Wind in the Door, Rumpelstiltskin, New York (2019); In the Flesh, Peles Empire, Berlin (2018).
