Jenkin van Zyl
b. 1993
Jenkin van Zyl is an artist and filmmaker based in London with a practice comprising film, performance, writing and sculpture. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts in 2021 and was the recipient of the RA Gold Medal Prize.
Van Zyl creates surreal, immersive installations, often anchored by film, where fantastical creatures emerge within transient environments. Outside the film, these characters and worlds continue as “escapees,” materialising as sculptures and objects that weave throughout Van Zyl’s body of work.
