Josh Kline

b. 1979

Born in Philadelphia, Josh Kline is an American multi-media artist currently living and working in New York. After studying film at Philadelphia’s Temple University, he began making video art and staging installations and public interventions. Widely considered one of the leading and most thought-provoking artists of his generation, Kline’s work is rooted in the exploration of the ever-evolving relationship between humanity and technology, and its subsequent ties with labour and class. Often taking on the form of installations, videos or sculptures, Kline’s work orbits around the philosophy of post-humanism in a world of precarity and anthropocentrism.

In 2023, the Whitney Museum of Contemporary Art presented the first U.S museum survey of his work that spanned the course of a decade. Since May 2024, Kline has been represented by Lisson Gallery, first exhibiting with them at Art Basel the following June. His works are housed in a number of major museum collections such as The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Guggenheim, New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
