Lawrence Lek

Lawrence Lek (b. 1982) is a London-based multimedia artist, filmmaker, and musician. Lek works in the fields of virtual reality and simulation, often using 3D rendering technology in his practice. Lek explores world-building as a form of multi-dimensional collage. His work combines elements of both material and virtual worlds that reflect on ideas about alternate histories and possible futures.
Born in Frankfurt am Main, Lek is of Malaysian-Chinese descent. He received his BA in Architecture from the University of Cambridge (2004); his AA Diploma at the Architectural Association, London (2008); his Master of Architecture II from The Cooper Union, New York (2012) and his PhD from the Royal College of Art, London (2022). Lek is currently represented by Sadie Coles HQ, London.
His works include the films AIDOL, Geomancer, Sinofuturism (1839–2046 AD), the open world video game simulations 2065, Europa, Mon Amour (2016 Brexit Edition), Unreal Estate (The Royal Academy is Yours), and Nøtel – an audio-visual collaboration with Kode9.
