American photographer and activist Nan Goldin was born in Washington, D.C. and currently lives and works in New York. Emerging from her own life and relationships, Goldin’s work explores LGBT subcultures, moments of intimacy, the HIV/AIDS crisis and the opioid epidemic, to which she has brought international attention. Uniting art and activism, Goldin’s work has transformed the role of photography in contemporary art.
