Paloma Varga Weisz
b. 1966
German artist Paloma Varga Weisz was born in Mannheim. She studied wood carving in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (1987 – 90) and studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (1990 – 98). She currently lives and works in Düsseldorf. Her work interrogates themes of memory, mortality, and psychology across mediums of sculpture, watercolour and drawing. Her sculptural work often embraces unconventional and distorted forms, a style of working shaped by the legacy of her father, Feri Varga, a Hungarian artist, who worked alongside art icons such as Jean Cocteau, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso.
Her work has been exhibited across the world, including Sadie Coles HQ, London; Konrad Fischer Galerie, Berlin; Massimo De Carlo, Milan; CFHILL, Stockholm; Gladstone 64, New York; Galeria Pedro Cera, Lisbon; Gerhardsen Gerner, Oslo; 51st International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale; and many more.
