Smith & Lyall
Since 2009, Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall have collaborated to design live shows for electronic music duo The Chemical Brothers. They work to create a transcendent audio-visual experience of music, film, lasers and large scale props. Known as the duo Smith & Lyall, the pair began creating visuals for bands like Oasis and U2 at the start of their career, around the same time they began working with The Chemical Brothers.
Smith & Lyall began working in the music industry producing visuals for warehouse parties during the rave scene in the early 90s. Lyall studied graphic design and audio-visual studies at Central St Martins shortly before pairing up with Smith, who went on to work as an award winning filmmaker, directing feature films, including The Chemical Brother’s immersive concert film Don’t Think, along with British TV drama and music videos. Lyall is also an acclaimed installation artist, creating tour visuals for the likes of Metallica and The Rolling Stones.
