Sylvie Fleury

b. 1961

Born in Geneva, Switzerland, where she continues to live and work, Sylvie Fleury is known for her work across sculpture, installations, and mixed media. She studied at the Germain School of Photography in 1981. Her early ‘shopping bag’ installations laid the foundation for her continuously evolving body of work, which centres around elements of consumer culture and 20th-century art, and critiques the superficiality of luxury products.

Fleury has exhibited at Galerie Thaddeus Ropac in Paris, Salon 94 in New York, and Almine Rech Gallery in Brussels and Sprüth Magers in London, among many others. Her work is housed in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, and the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg.

Her awards include the Prix de la Société des arts de Genève, 2015; Prix Meret Oppenheim, 2018 and Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres, 2020.
