London-based Gorkova was born in Moscow in 1998 and graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2022 with an MA in contemporary photography. They’re interested in ‘queering’ the medium by focusing on its unusual and lesser-known aspects. A few years ago, they started collaborating with London photographic labs; collecting the waste products of darkrooms – paper, chemicals and scraps of film – and creating new works. “I am curious about how by taking someone else’s image and destroying it you can still create one.” Gorkova says.
Their work has been exhibited at South Parade, London; Sothebys Institute; Royal Academy of Arts; Tate Modern and more.
