Poppy Jones

b. 1985

British artist Poppy Jones was born in London in 1985. She received her BA in Fine Art from Falmouth College of Art in 2007 before completing an MA in Fine Art Printmaking from London’s Royal College of Art in 2010. She currently lives and works in Bexhill-on-Sea.

Through a process of monotype printing and overpainting, Jones transfers her own photographs onto panels of recycled silk, suede and cotton. Her work offers a collection of fragments and snapshots of her surroundings – a series of still lifes infused with a strange nostalgia. Through delicate shifts in colour, shadow and tone, Jones transmutes familiar subject matters like wilting flowers, open notebooks, half-drunk glasses of water and creased shirts into a poignant and evolving inventory of sorts that celebrates the beauty of fleeting moments and everyday objects.

Jones has exhibited her work in a number of solo and group shows at galleries including Herald St, London; The Artist Room, London; Overduin & Co, Los Angeles; Mai 36, Zurich; Brunette Coleman, London; Jack Siebert Projects, Paris; Galerie Mighela Shama, Geneva; Marinaro, New York and many more. Her works are housed in public collections in the US at the ICA Miami and in China at He Art Museum in Foshan and X Museum in Beijing.
